for Parshat Nitzavim - VaYelech
i
When all the people are before Moses,
Moses says:
Each of you
—your princes, your elders, your officers,
your women, your children
your woodcutters,
your water-bearers—
are entered into God’s covenant.
Those who are here today,
and those who are not.
ii
Perhaps it is because Moses reaches so far
—from prince to woodcutter
elder to child
officer to water-bearer
mighty to small—
that even those who are not here
even those who are not born yet
have their part.
iii
So that bringing in all people
transcending the walls between them
Moses breaks down, too, the walls of time
and reaches to forever.
iv
Perhaps another way to describe infinity
is: Bringing everyone in.

Shabbat shalom,

Deut 29:9-14. The term I referred to as “water-bearer” is, more accurately, "one who draws water."
